Conrad Mbewe continues his series in 2 Peter 1 Christian, Grow Up! The focus is on a string of imperatives for spiritual growth that Peter delivers to all Christians. Of course the first step is to have faith. But on this foundation we must build with quality materials in order to mature as Christians. Peter commands us to add virtue to faith. Today is about adding knowledge to our virtue. The series continues with a call to temper our knowledge with self control and to add steadfastness to our artillery. At each stage we are growing and developing – all the better to serve our heavenly father and persevere in our walk with Christ.

Christians Pursue Knowledge

The pursuit of knowledge can fly in the face of today’s popular phrase “ignorance is the mother of devotion”. The popular understanding is that if you know too much it can deprive you of your commitment to God. The belief that individuals who are spiritual – really overflowing with zeal – are individuals who don’t want to think too much. It is enough that their hearts are in love with God. This is not biblical. That’s not the way God intended Christianity to be. Rather Christians are meant to have a faith and virtue that are both intelligent and knowledgeable. Our faith and our virtue must be informed!

As we intentionally pursue a growing and deeper knowledge of God himself, the Christian life and the world around us it will transform the way we conduct ourselves in our families, our workplaces and our churches. It will also impact how we respond to trials and temptations. Listen to Pastor Mbewe as he unpacks this key aspect of our Christian maturity.
