How much time do you spend in your workplace? Think about it for a second. In your profession – as a manager, student, housewife, builder, doctor, driver, etc. – how much time are you at work each week? OK, now compare this to how much time you spend at church. Maybe two hours – perhaps four if you include Bible study? There is no comparison! We spend far more time at work than the handful of hours we spend at church.
This raises some interesting questions for those of us who call ourselves Christian.
Where Do We Live The Christian Life?
We must all reflect the kingdom in how we work and treat others.
For a start we need to ask ourselves this: “Where do I live out my Christian life?” The scriptures are clear: God wants us to live with Jesus as the supreme king over our lives – over our entire lives and everything we do. So logically, this also includes the place where we spend the majority of our time – at work!
Paul exhorts employees to work with diligence and excellence for our bosses as we are ultimately working for God (Colossians 3:22-23). He also reminds bosses that they work in the service of God who is over them (Colossians 4:1). We must all reflect the kingdom in how we work and treat others.
Making a Difference In Your Workplace
So, is Jesus glorified as you work? Does the world notice a difference in you in the workplace because you are a Christian?
We are ultimately working for God
