A loving God who sends people to hell is a truth that most of us struggle with. Can we believe God truly loves humanity when he judges our sin so harshly?
Why Will A Loving God Send People To Hell?
The cross of Christ ultimately demonstrates the reconciliation of the wrath of God with the love of God.
God’s eternal wrath makes sense because it’s a by-product of his eternal love. He loves all he made but knows that sin will ultimately destroy it. He has the data of human history to prove that.

Why Will A Loving God Send People To Hell?
Well, the Bible in 1 John 4:16 famously says that God is love. And so, going on from that, many have said, why would one who is love simultaneously, eternally condemn anyone? Put in another way, some say, how can God have wrath while abounding in love? It doesn’t make sense. To which I want to respectfully push back by saying, how can God not have love if he abounds in love? It doesn’t make sense.
How Parents Love Their Children
Let me illustrate, I love my kids and so, I hate it when they get sick and as a result of a bacterial infection. So, what do I do? I respond with a fiercest wrath to purchase the recommended pills that will destroy the bacteria that’s trying to destroy the ones I love. Get it? My wrath was displayed not in spite of my love but because of my love.
Understanding God’s Wrath
God’s eternal wrath makes sense because it’s a by-product of his eternal love. He loves all he made but knows that sin will ultimately destroy it. He has the data of human history to prove that. It’s in that vein that hell proves to be God’s loving reaction to counteract what possess an eternal threat to the creation he loves. This is why we must never confuse the love and wrath of sinful men or other deities to the wrath and love of the true and living God.
How God Saves Humanity
But one more thing, the way God eventually saves sinful humanity and this broken world is out of his eternal love for us, he poured out his eternal love of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins for those who believe in him as Isaiah 53 so wonderfully shows.
God’s Love For The world
That’s why we are told famously also in John 3:16 that God loved the world by making Jesus perish in our place. The cross of Christ ultimately demonstrates the reconciliation of the wrath of God with the love of God.
