The Trinity is a fundamental doctrine on which the bible is based. Grasping it is important for every believer as it greatly shapes our view of who God is.
What Is The Trinity?
The Trinity is a shorthand way of expressing who God is from all eternity. He is one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
There are 7 statements I can give that will help us to always remember that:
- there is one God
- the Father is God
- the Son is God
- the Spirit is God
- the Father is not the Son
- the Son is not the Spirit
- the Spirit is not the Father.

What Is The Trinity?
There don’t come more important questions than this. Well the Trinity is a shorthand way of expressing who God is from all eternity. And that is that he is one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Trinity is a shorthand way of expressing who God is from all eternity. He is one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Seven true statements
Now there are seven statements I can give that will. help us to always remember that one, there is one God. Two, the Father is God. Three the Son is God. Four, the Spirit is God. Five, the Father is not the Son. Six the Son is not the Spirit. Seven, the Spirit is not the Father.
Objection: The Trinity Is Illogical
Now there are some objections against this. So for instance, some people say this is illogical. Well the thing to say first is that this does not deny any of the fundamental laws of logic. You are not saying that the Father is the Son and then the Father is not the Son. No, that would be illogical. You’re saying that the Father is God and the Son is God but the Father is not the Son. Just like it would not be logical to say that Michelle is not Barack because you said Michelle is Obama and Barack is Obama. They are both Obamas in one relationship and then they are not each other in another relationship.
Objection Two: It Is Too Complex
Second, some people say, “Well this is too complex it doesn’t reflect anything that we see in humanity. ” Well of course. I think that’s the way we should expect it because when we go with design you move from the complex to the less complex. That is, the designer is always more complex than that which has been designed. Steve Jobs is more complex than an Apple Computer so we expect God to be more complex than the humans he’s created.
The designer is always more complex than that which has been designed.
The Creator vs Creation
And also I should add to that, that when we then talk about the complex God, we cannot just simply deduce from what we see in the creation to be who God is. He has to condescend to us, he has to reveal that to us and we Christians believe that he’s done so in the scriptures, the Bible.
