Can A Christian Marry A Non-Christian If They Are In Love?
At the most fundamental level you are not united. You may be united in love but you’re not united in your worship of the true and living God
“It sends a wrong message to that non-believing spouse. You’re sending a message that says something like this, “Though my faith is really important, our romantic love exceeds that.” But let me put it in a reverse way, “Though God is really important to me, you are more important to me.” In other words, you are my supreme God.”

Can A Christian Marry A Non-Christian?
Now, the answer to that is, no. But I should also give a strong caveat to that. This does not mean that when two Christians marry each other that they will be guaranteed to have a wonderful marriage. This just isn’t the case. There is such a thing as marrying the wrong Christian. Well, back to this question, if you are trying to marry a non-Christian as a Christian, that says a whole lot more about your Christianity than any other thing.
When two Christians marry each other it doesn’t mean they are guaranteed a wonderful marriage. There is such a thing as marrying the wrong Christian.
Our Faith Should Determine Our View Of Marriage
So, one reason first is this, it says that romantic love determines the purpose of love for you more than your faith. And that shouldn’t be the way it should work. As Christians we believe that God invented marriage. So, he should tell us what the purpose of marriage is. But here now you will not be able to fulfil what that purpose of marriage is because romantic love is determining for you what that should be.
It says that romantic love determines the purpose of love for you more than your faith and that shouldn’t be the way it should work
So, for instance, one of the purposes of marriage is so that the couple collectively can use their efforts to extend the frontiers of the kingdom of God. That can’t happen when you don’t share the same faith. Or another thing is this, that collectively they should raise up their children in the nurture, in the way of the Lord so that they can also become Christians. You cannot do that if you are both not Christians.
You Are Not Truly United
And then shows a second thing, that both of you cannot then be truly united. You see, marriage as the Bible puts it is a one flesh union that depicts spiritual, emotional and so many other things. But at the most fundamental level, most fundamental devotional level, and worship level, you are also not united. You may be united in love but you’re not united in your worship of the true and living God.

God Must Come First
And then finally, it sends a wrong message to that non-believing spouse. You’re sending a message that says something like this, “Though my faith is really important, our romantic love exceeds that.” But let me put it in a reverse way, “Though God is really important to me, you are more important to me.” In other words, you are my supreme God. That’s no position for someone who is called to worship the true God in Spirit and in truth to adopt.
