Even been church the place where people go to congregate, it is impossible to don’t look each other and appreciate the way they wear. We are tempted to look others in ways they wear and ourselves all the time, and because of that, we took time to select which cloth we are going to use to the Sunday service, for sure. Outside of the church, we face the same situation, to attend meeting or even go the someone’s weeding, we took time to choose the proper attire.
To deal with the dressing issue specially in the church, some denominations prefers to include specific attire mainly to the pastors, choir and other servants working in the Sunday service. Other churches are more liberal, they do not care how the church workers and the rest of the churches attire.
Live the Christian life is not carrying the burden of “what to or not do” When Jesus went to the cross an died for us He gave us freedom. 1 Corinthians 6:12 remind “All things are lawful for me but not everything is beneficial” So, we are free do whatever we want, whatever our heart desire, but, as Christian we do a quick reflection before any steep, reflection to see if our attitude is adequate to the biblical principles. So, Looking though the biblical perspective, how do we supposed to wear? Does the way we wear have any relation in terms of our spiritual maturate? Thinking on this topic, some tips can be applied in the moment we are choosing our daily attire.
I. Our body does not belong to us.
Our existence in this world is not random consequence as some thinks. We clearly told in Genesis book that was God who made us. By the powder we were made and more than been made by powder, we are told that Himself, the God almighty came from his throne of throne to the earth to make us by His own hands (Genesis 3:7). Different from other living beings that was made by His word, we were made by His holly hands. This is the first remind that’s we must take in consideration – we were made by God.
The second point to be observed is that, after we have sinned for the first time, was Himself, the God almighty who made ours first clothe (Genesis 3:21) to cover our shame. Such wonderful, isn’t?
These two verses in the Genesis are there to remind us that before we follow the wearing style of moment or wear to self-satisfaction, we must be aware to who belong the body our body, He who made our existence possible, the God almighty.
II. You were bought by high cost
In Genesis we see God almighty coming from heaven to wear the first men’s even after their sinned against Him, and Paul, teaches us in 1 Corinthians 6:20 that we were bought with high price and because of that we must glorify God with our body.
The second main reason we should consider when we are wearing our bodies is to have in mind that our body is precious, too much precious to God that even the bible doesn’t describe how much it worth, it was only said that was bought with “high price”. Jesus himself, the God made men accepted be pure sacrifice at the cross to rescue us from our sin by paying a high cost of humiliation, and whip in our name. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us (…)” 2 Corinthians 5:21, all of that to rescue us, to our bodies away from the hell.
In the same way we keep our treasures in the vault, we should be keeping our body conserved and not letting anyone see improper parts our even touch. How long or short your cloths should be it is up to you, the only measure unit you must count on it is that your body were bought by high cost, and something valuable can not to be available to anyone.
III. Your body is temple of God
More than made our body, rescue it from the hell, the God almighty chose to live in our body as a way to show ours how He loves us. Its written in 1Corinthians 6:19 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own” it is a rhetoric question made in this verse that is reminding us that we should have knew it since the day that we accepted Jesus us our Lord and Saviour.
When we are choosing the way to wear, we are choosing more than just clothes, we are clothing the temple of God. Imagine that, we that are merely sinners, God almighty living in us and let us to decide the way we show His temple to the world. And this task was not let to us without a proper instruction in how to proceed, the bible says in Ephesians 4:30 “(…) do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” To instruct us to wear in the proper way, avoiding to grieve the holy spirit living in us, as new creatures that are perfecting to be similar to Jesus Christ. It’s not a fully responsibility of the church or even the pastors of the church, it’s our responsibility to wear in properly to what will not grieve the Holly spirit that lives in us.
IV. Glorify God by your body
As Christians with renewed minds, all we do it should be to glorify God, Romans 11:36, says “For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever!” in clear way, this verse shows us that the ultimate reason why God made us is to glorify Him. The process of Gods glorification must be more than mere words, it must be done by the way we cloth also. In each sun raise, as Christians, we are invited to show the world the light of Christ in us, and in whatever we do, as said in 1 Corinthians 10:31, including clothing, should be glorifying God.
Conclusion
Before we choice the way we wear, we should ask God by the holy spirit if we are going to glorify Him by the why we will be looking. As Christian we know that the bible exhort “Don’t be reason to your brother fall spiritual” 1 Corinthians 10:32. Be aware, sometimes, because way we dress, others prefer to don’t become Christians because they are not seen difference and clear transformations in us. Backing to the point made us arrive here, the conclusion is simple, the proper way of dressing depend on the fully understanding that our body belongs to God, that He bought us by high price, that our body is temple of God and whatever we decide to wear should be to glorify the God almighty. Keep it in mind.
